Johnson and Nancy Houseman to James McFarlan of Tornton(?), 25 October 1845, 80 acres, Henry County, IA Deed Book ?:155.

This Indenture, made this Twenty fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five, between Johnson Houseman and Nancy Houseman his wife of Mt. Pleasant in the County of Henry and Territory of Iowa, of the first part and James McFarlan of Tornton(?) Township in the County of Henry and Territory of Iowa of the second part, Witnesseth, that the said parties of the first part in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars lawful money to them paid, have granted bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever a certain lot or parcel of Territory of Iowa described as follows to wit, being the East half of the North West quarter of Section thirty five in Township No Seventy two North of Range No Seven West, containing eighty acres - To have and to hold the same unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever - Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereto belonging; and the said parties of the first part for themselves & their heirs do covenant and agree with the said party of the second part that said premises are free from incumbrance; and that they will forever warrant, and defend the title thereof unto the said part of the second part his heirs and assigns forever against the claims of all persons whatever - In Witness whereof, the said parties of the first part have hereto set their hands and seals the date first above written

I John P. Grantham, Deputy Clerk of the District Court for said County certify that on this day Johnson Houseman and Nancy Houseman his wife, who are personally known to me to be the persons whose names are subscribed to the foregoing conveyance as parties thereto appeared before me and acknowledged that they had voluntarily executed the same; and the said Nancy Houseman was made acquainted with the contents of said conveyance and acknowledge on an examination apart from her husband, that she executed the same, and relinquishes her dower in the real estate therein mentioned freely and without compulsion or undue influence of her husband. Given under my hand, and official seal the 29th day of October A.D. 1845
