Robert Finley, Gentleman, to John Ramsay, Gentleman, 88 acres, 18 November 1766, VA Deed Book 13, page 93, Augusta Co., VA

 

THIS INDENTURE made this Eighteenth Day of November in the year of our Lord one

thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Six BETWEEN Robert Finley Gent of the County of

Augusta on the one part and John Ramsay Gent of the said County of Augusta of the

other part Witnesseth that the sd Robert Finley for and in Consideration of the

sum of five Shillings Current Money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said

John Ramsey at or before the sealing & Delivery of these presents the Receipt

whereof is hereby acknowledged hath Granted Bargained and Sold and by these

presents Doth Grant Bargain & Sell unto the said John Ramsey one piece or parcel

of land Containing Eighty Eight Acres be the same more or less lying and being in

Beverly Manner in the said County of Augusta and on both sides of the South River

of Shanando and bounded as followeth Viz Beginning at two pines on William

finleys line and with the same North forty nine Degrees East fifty two poles to a

line of sd Ramseys other land by the River and thence up the same South Seventy

one degrees East one hundred and ten poles to two Elms and hiccory and thence up

and Crossing said River to a white oak and black oak on a bank thence South Sixty

one Degrees East one hundred & Sixteen poles to two pines above a bank thence

South west thirty poles to a small pine North Seventy five degrees west one

hundred and two poles to the River thence North Eighty five degrees West fifty

poles and North Seventy Degrees West one hundred and Sixty Six poles to the

Begnining and all houses buildings orchards Ways Waters Water Courses profits

Commodities hereditaments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises

hereby Granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appurtaining and the

Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents Issues and profits

thereof TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said Eighty Eight acres of land be the same more

or less and all & singular other the premises hereby Granted with the appurtenances unto the said

John Ramsey his Executors Administrators & Assigns from the day before the date hereof for

and during the term and Time of one whol year from thence next ensuring fully to be completed

and Ended Yielding and paying therefore the rent of one Ear of Indian Corn on Lady Day next if

the same shall be lawfully demanded to the Intent & purpose that by Virtue of these

presents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession the said John

Ramsey may be in actual possession of the premises & be thereby enabled to accept

and take a Grant & Release of the Reversion and Inheritance thereof to him his

heirs IN WITNESS whereof the said Robert Finley hath hereunto set his hand & Seal

At a Court held for Augusta County November the 18th 1766 Robert Findley

acknowledged this his lease for land to John Ramsey which is ordered to be

recorded
