Robert Turk Deposition, 15 April 1772, Augusta County, Drawer 423

 

Augusta - This day Robt Turk came before us James Craig & Alexr Robertson ?? of his Majestys Justices of the peace for said County and being first sworn on the Evengelist of Almighty God the truth to say of an Action upon the Case James Turk Plentiff and Thomas Turk Defendant Deposeth & saith that James Turk Charges Thomas Turk Ten pounds which he says he laid out for Elizabeth Finley's Education in Carolina Thomas Turk having got his Fathers Estate in his hand paid Henry Foster husband of Elisabeth Finley forty Pounds Robert Turk sold land to the value of forty Pounds to Thomas Turk which forty Pounds Robert Turk Paid Henry Foster and Elizabeth Foster alias Finly and the said Robert Turk took Fosters Recept for the sum Mentioned therefore Thomas Turk had no right to the Money for the Money was Robert Turks and he Paid the said Foster the same and Took his Recept and further saith not

This day Robert Turk came before us James Craig & Alexr Robertson ?? of his Majestys Justices for County and being first sworn on the Holy Evengelest of Almighty God the truth to say of Action of ??? depending in Augusta Court James Turk plintaff Thomas Turk Defendent Deposeth & saith that in August 1771 James Turk came into my house and told me he had bough Thomas' Negro boy Bob I asked him how much he was to Give he told me fifty pounds in a bond he had of William Finley's then Thomas Turk came in Leading the Negro boy in his hand and said James here is the Negro boy Bob I Deliver him to you for ten days upon Tryal if you and mary Likes him at the End of Ten days you giving me William Finlys bond of fifty Pounds at the End of ten days then the boy shall be yours then James said What occasion is there of ten days I like the boy and is willing to keep him but Thomas said you shall have no right to him till the ten days is expir'd James said well Thomas I am agreed and you may have the bond now Thomas said no James Ill not take the bond till the ten days is out then I ??ing William Finlys Bond of Fifty Pounds I will make you a right to the Negro and if not I will take my Negro again and further saith not
