Sarah Bryan apprenticed to John Finley,

15 March 1774, Augusta County, VA, loose papers

 

Indenture witnesseth that Alexander Thomson & Michal Boyer Church wardens of

Augusta Parish by Virtue of an order of Court held for Augusta County the 15th

day of March 1774 it was ordered that the Church wardens bind a baster Child

named Sarah Bryan to John finley according to law pursuant to which order we bind

her to the sd John Finley to serve him from the date of the date hereof untill

she shall be full Eighteen years of age during all which term the said Sarah

Bryan her said master faithfully shall serve ... to keep his lawfull commands

Everywhere gladly obey she shall do no [harm] to her masters Goods nor lend them

unlawfully to others she shall not Committ fornication Nor Contract Matrimony

During the said term She shall not play at Cards Dice or other Unlawfull games

she shall She shall not absent herself day or night from her said masters

service Unlawfully nor haunt ale houses taverns nor play houses but in all things

behave herself as a faithfull as a faithfull servant and the said John Finley

shall cause her to be taught to Reed and tech her or cause her to be taught to spin

and sew Also provide for her suficient meat drink washing lodging and aperral for

her During the sd term and at the Experation thereof pay her three pounds ten

shillings as freedom Dues and for the true performance of all and Every of the

above covenants Each of the parties bind themselves unto the other firmly by

these for witness where of they have set their hands and seal this 15th day of

1774.
