George Taylor indented to John Finley, 13 November 1779, to become a cooper,

This Indenture witnesseth that Patrick Buchanan Jas Tate Churchwardens of Augusta

Parish by virtue of an order of Court held for Augusta County the 15th of August

Court 1779? It was ordered that the Churchwarden bind out George Taylor now four

years old last March to John Finley according to law p...amant to which order we

bind him to the said John Finley to serve him from the day of this date hereof

until he shall be full twenty one years of age during all which time the said

George Taylor, his master faithfully shall serve. His secrets keep. His lawful

commands everywhere gladly obey. He shall do no damage to his said masters goods

nor lend them unlawfully to others. He shall not commit fornication, nor

contract matrimony during the said term. He shall not play at cards, dice or

other unlawfull games. He shall not absence himself day nor night from his said

masters service unlawfully nor haunt the ??? taverns nor play ???. But in all

things behave himself as a faithful servant and the said John Finley shall cause

him to be taught to read write and cypher as far as the rule of three. Likewise

teach or cause him to be taught the Cooper trade: and also provide for him

sufficient meat, drink, washing, lodging and apparell fitting for him during the

term ??? thereof pay him three pounds ten shillings as freedom during and for the

??? performance full and every of the above covenants and agreements. Each of

the parties bond themselves unto the other firmly by these presents witness

whereof they have set their hands and seals this thirteenth? day of Novbr 1779.
