Thomas Jefferson Esquire: Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to
whom these presents Shall come Greeting: Know ye that in Consideration of the
Ancient Composition of five Shillings Sterling paid by George Finley into the
Treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the Said Commonwealth unto the
said George Finley a certain tract or parcel of Land Containing thirty five Acres
by Survey bearing date the twenty fifth day of January one thousand Seven hundred
and Seventy two Lying and being in the County of Augusta on a Small Branch on the
South Side of the Middle river of Shanandore and bounded as followeth, to wit,
Beginning at two pines in his old Line and corner to Edward Bredens Land and with
said Bredens Line North fifty six degrees east, One hundred and Sixty four poles
to William Andersons line North thirty two degrees West thirty eight poles with
said Line to a Ceder on the bank of the river and thence South fifty Six degrees
west one hundred and forty five poles to a white Oak and red Oak on a ridge South
twenty three degrees West fifteen poles to a white oak and black Oak thence South
thirty two degrees east thirty poles to the Beginning with its Appurtenances: to
have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land, with its appurtenances, to the
Said George Finley and his Heirs forever, In Witness whereof, the said Thomas
Jefferson Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand
and Caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on
the first day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and
Eighty one and of the commonwealth the fifth.
