Margaret Mooney Apprenticed to John Finley, 2 June 1795, Augusta County
Apprentice Bonds, Loose Papers.
This Indenture Witnesseth that Robert Craig for and in Behalf of the Overseers of
the Poor of the 2d District of the County and Parish of Augusta Namly Thoms
Frame, David McNair and Myself agreeable to an Order of Court of said County have
put an aprentise Named Margaret Mooney by her former Indentures when bounded to
Jacob Berrier Deceasd four years old Septemr, Last Court(?), to John Finley of
said County to learn the business of spinning knittin sewing and other houswork
as is Customary in the Country and after the Manner of an Apprentice to serve the
said John Finley untill she fully arrives at the age of Eighteen Years During all
which unto him the said Apprentice her said Master shall faithfully serve his
secrets Keep and his Lawfull Commands at all times readily Obey she shall do no
Damage to her said Master nor see it Done by others without giving Notice thereof
to her said Master she shall not Waste her said Masters goods nor lend them
unlawfully to any at cards dice or any unlawfull game she shall not play Whereby
her said Master May Have Damage Her own goods or the Goods of others She shall
not buy or sell without the Leave of her said Master she shall not absent herself
from her said Masters service without his leave But in all things Behave Herself
as a faithfull Apprentice ought to do during the said term, and the said Master
shall use the utmost of His Best Endeavours To Teach or Cause To Be Taught or
Instructed the said Apprentice in the Business of Spinning Knitting sewing &
Housework as is Customary in the Country Also to Read & Write Distinctly and
Intelligebly and To Provide for Her Sufficient Meat Drink Lodging Washing and
Apparel fitting for an Apprentice During said Term and at the End of said Term
shall give unto said Apprentice Double Apparrel and pay unto Her The Usual
Allowance of freedom Dues According to law and for the true Performance of all
the afforsaid Agreements the Parties Bind themselves to Each Other firmly By
these Presents in Witness whereof we Have hereunto Interchangably Set our Hands &
seals This 2d Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred &
Ninety five

Note from Katherine G. Bushman, 28 October 1991: "The apprentice bonds are among
loose papers in Clerk's office. The one you have has been filed with the
apprentice bonds - it is not recorded in a book - either Deed Book or Court order
book. Sorry but cannot be recorded any more specifically."
