John Finley Records in Washington County, VA

 

26 February 1777, John Finley wounded in thigh in battle with Cherokee, unable to

gain a living, in Lewis Preston Summers, Annals of Southwest Virginia, 1769-1800.

Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing, 1970, p. 957. (On p. 1390 John Finley listed

as wounded at Long Island Flats; on p. 1419 John Finley listed as private in the

company of William Christian in the Cherokee Expedition of August, 1776).

9 October 1780, John Finley witness to Thomas McCullugh's deed; Summers p. 1346.


1 September 1781, John Finley granted 400 Acres on North Fork Holston, actual

settlement date 1774, Summers p. 1216. However, VSL cannot find a grant for 400

acres for a John Finley in Washington County (form dated 5 September 1990).


1782, John Finley on tax list in Capt. Joseph Black's Precinct.


21 August 1782, John Finley served on Jury, Summers p. 1110.


23 August 1782, John Finley served on Jury, Summers p. 1112.


16 March 1784, John Finley witnessed bill of sale, Summers p. 1169.


2 October 1786, John Finley granted 312 acres on east fork of Wallace's Branch,

VSL Land Grants No. 6, 1786, Reel 72, pp. 451-453. (Summers gives the date as 28

May 1785).


1786, John Finley on tax list in Capt. Joseph Black's Precinct.


31 October 1792, John Findley of Knox County sold to Peter Fulkerson, 312 acres

on east fork of Wallace's Branch, north fork of Holston, DB 1:305.
