Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all to whom

these presents shall come, Greeting: Know ye that by Virtue of a Certificate in

right of Settlement given by the Commissioners for adjusting the Titles to

unpatented Lands in the District of Washington and Montgomery and in

consideration of the ancient Composition of one pound fifteen Shillings Sterling

paid by John Finley into the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by

the said Commonwealth unto the said John Finley a certain tract or parcel of Land

Containing three hundred and twelve acres by Survey bearing date the twenty

seventh Day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty five Lying and being in

the County of Washington on the head waters of the East fork of Wallaces Branch

the waters of the North fork of Holstein River and Bounded as followeth (to wit)

Beginning at a white Oak and two poplars on the South side of Chesnut Ridge

running thence South forty five degrees East one hundred and Sixteen poles to a

white Oak by a Valley South one degree West Sixty eight poles to two white Oaks

by said Valley South thirty six degrees East one hundred and Seventy six poles to

a Black Oak & two Dogwoods North thirty seven degrees East five poles to a

Chesnut and Dogwood corner to Gilbert Watsons Land and with his Line South twenty

six degrees East Seventy three poles to a Chesnut South nineteen degrees West

Sixty poles to a Chesnut Stump South Sixty five degrees West fifty eight poles to

a black Oak Sapling near the top of a ridge in a Line of George Finleys Land and

with the same North Seventeen degrees West forty five poles to a black Oak and

two Poplars North Seventy four degrees West eighty poles to a forked Dogwood and

white Oak North thirty five degrees West Sixty four poles to a Sugar tree and

white Walnut North twenty two degrees West two hundred and twenty poles to two

Chesnuts from one road? on the first mentioned ridge North twenty nine degrees

East one hundred and twenty eight poles along said ridge to the Beginning With

its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land With its

appurtenances to the said John Finley and his Heirs forever. In Witness whereof

the said Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath

hereunto set his Hand and Caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be

affixed at Richmond, on the Second Day of October in the years of our Lord, one

thousand seven hundred and eighty six and of the Commonwealth the Eleventh.
