2 May 1780, James Patton and Sarah, his wife, to John Finley of Rockbridge, 2,550 pounds, 300 acres adjacent to Wm. Gibson, no witnesses, DB A:257.

 

7 September 1786, William McClung and Jean, his wife, to Thomas Russel, John Finley, William Parker & Joseph Reed of Rockbridge County, 1 pound, 1/2 acre for Ministry of the Gospel, with McClung and Lyles old line. Witnesses: Joseph Little, George Currie, Thomas Reed. Signed: William McClung, Jean (her mark) McClung. DB A:600.

4 October 1803, Jas. Finley took oath as Captain in the 1st Battalion of the 8th Regiment in the 13th Brigade and 3rd Division of Virginia Militia. Rockbridge Court 6 December 1803; Book 2:360.

 

6 September 1813, James Moore, William Caruthers and Isaac Caruthers to John Finley of Rockbridge, $1, 230 acres on a branch of Buffaloe Creek, conveyed to Moore by mortgage 26 February 1803 from Wm. Finley, then sold by foreclosure to John Robertson, 6 January 1806 released to Wm. Finley then to Wm. & Isaac Caruthers; John Robinson/Robertson mentioned; John Finley paid $702 in July 1813. Finley for debts and $1, crop of corn 500 to 800 bushels, 150 dozen oats and all other personal property; null and void if debts discharged before 1 January 1843; mentions deed to G.B. Stuart 15 September 1841; debts enumerated (Craig & Moppin of Staunton, $150; Bank of VA at Buchanan, $130, Gen. B.G. Baldwin & Dr. A. Leyburn securities; $60+ S. Walkup, trustee, Gen. C.P.
