David and Mary Doak to John Alexander of York County, PA, 400 acres, 16 May 1769, Augusta County, VA, Deed Book 15:473-474.

 

THIS INDENTURE made the sixteenth Day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine BETWEEN David Doak and Mary his wife of the County of Augusta of the one part and John Alexander of York County in the Province of Pennsilvania of the other part WITNESSETH that the said David Doack and Mary his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of five shilling Current Money of Virginia to them in Hand paid by the said John Alexander at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said John Alexander one Certain Tract or Parcel of Land being in Augusta and Beverly Mannor containing four hundred acres and bounded as follows viz BEGINNING at two Hiccorys and a White Oak Thence South sixty five Degrees East two hundred and thirty three Poles to two Locusts thence North twenty five Degrees East two hundred Poles to a White Oak and Hiccory thence North thirty Degrees East one hundred and twenty Poles to a White Oak and Hiccory thence North West eighty four poles to a White Oak and Spanish Oak thence South sixty five Degrees West one hundred and sixty two Poles thence North sixty five Degrees West sixty three Poles to a White Oak thence South twenty five Degrees West two hundred and eighteen Poles to the Beginning and all Houses Buildings Orchards Way & Waters Watercourses profits Commodities Heredetaments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises hereby granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents issues and profits thereof TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the Lands hereby conveyed and all and singular other the Premises hereby granted with the Appurtenances unto the said John Alexander his Executors Administrators and assignes from the Day before the Date hereof for and during the full term and time of one whole year from thence next ensuing fully to complete and ended YIELDING AND PAYING therefor the Rent of one Pepper Corn on Lady Day next if the same shall be lawfully demanded to the intent and purpose that by Virtue of these Presents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possessions the said John Alexander may be in actual possession of the Premises and be thereby enabled to accept and take a grant and release of the Reversion and Inheritance thereof to him and his Heirs IN WITNESS whereof the said David Doack and Mary his wife have hereunto set their Hands and Seals the Day and year first above Written.
