This Indenture made this tenth day of March one thousand eight hundred and six between James Crockett and mary his wife of the one part of the County of Wythe & State of Virginia and David Finley of Clarke County & state of Kentucky of the other part, Witnesseth that the said James Crockett and mary his wife for & in consideration of the sum of two thousand pounds to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold & doth by these presents grant Bargain sell and Confirm unto the said David Finley his Heirs or assigns One certain Tract or parcel of Land Lying in the county of Clarke & State of Kentucky Containing by survey One thousand acres be the same more or less as granted to the said James Crockett assignee of William Newell by patent bearing date at Richmond in the Commonwealth of Virginia the first day of July 1785? (1795?) & of the Commonwealth the ninth? & adjoining the Lands of James Crockett Assignee of James Newell on the waters of Howards upper Creek on the east side & is bounded as followeth to wit, BEGINNING at a sugar tree Lynn & beech running thence North forty degrees East four hundred poles crossing several drains of said creek to a hickory sugar tree & Elm on the top of a place? ridge thence South 50 degrees East 400 poles crossing several drains of said Creek to three sugartrees Saplins on this side of a hill thence south 40 degrees West 400 poles Crossing two small drains to a white oak live dogwood saplin on the top of a ridge thence north 40 degrees West 400 poles to the Beginning with all & singular the privileges & appurtenances thereunto belonging or any were appertaining unto the said David Finley his heirs or asignes to the sole use and Behoof of him the said David Finley his heirs or assigns forever, & the said James Crockett & mary his wife for themselves their heirs & doth covenant with the said David Finley his heirs & that they the said James Crockett and mary his wife the said Tract or parcel of Land with all its appurtenances unto the said David Finley his heirs against the Claim or Claims of all & every person or persons whomsoever Claiming under him the said James Crockett will forever warrant and defend In Witness whereof the said James Crockett & Mary his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day & year above written It is to be understood that in case said Finley does not obtain the said one thousand acres Land called for by this deed he is never the less barred from any redress whatsoever from the said James Crockett his heirs Excors or admrs by express agreement

This Indenture of Bargain and sale from James Crockett and Mary his wife to David Finley was exhibited in Court acknowledged by the said James Crockett to be his act and Deed and upon the privy examination of the said mary the wife who relinquished her right at Dower and the same [was ordered to be recorded - unreadable]
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the public seal of my Office at Withe Court house the 28th day of April one thousand eight hundred and six and in the 30th year of the Commonwealth.
