Rachel Downing gives Power of Attorney to Andrew Downing to convey 600 acres on Elkhorn River, from Robert Sawyers of Montgomery County, VA, 29 August 1792, Mercer County KY, Book 1:416-417.


Mercer County to wit

To all whom these presents Shall come Greeting

Know ye that for divers causes me hereunto moving I do Ordain constitute and appoint my trusty friend Andrew Downing of Lincoln County and State aforesaid my Lawful attorney investing him with my full power and authority to ask and Demand in my name a Deed of Conveyance for Six Hundred acres of land to be chosen out of a thousand lying near the forks of Elkhorn in the State aforesaid of Robert Sawyers of Montgomery County Virginia and in case of refusal or non compliance to sue or take such steps for the obtaining said land of said Sawyers as I myself might legally take were I personally present and by these presents I do confirm ratify and acknowledge all that my said attorney Shall legally do in my name in and about the Premisses given under my hand this 29 of August 1792
