This indenture made this fifteenth day of February in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty Five between David Finley and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Lincoln and State of Virginia of the one part and William Downing of the sd County and State of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds to him in hand the said David Finley by the sd William Downing the receipt whereof he doth acknowledge hath bargained granted aliened and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain grant alien and confirm unto the said William Downing a certain tract or parcel of land containing three hundred acres lying and being in the county of Lincoln on the east side of the Dicks River being part of the grant whereon this David Finley now lives adjoining Samuel Scotts land on the south William Davis on the east and Asle Davis on the north and bounded as follows Viz. beginning on said Scotts line at the corner of William Davis land at two sugar trees running from thence south twenty degrees east with William Davis line two hundred and forty poles to a white oak and sugar tree thence east four hundred and fifteen poles to a red oak and sugar tree thence east four hundred and fifteen poles to a red oak sugar tree vz. thence north twenty degrees west two hundred and fifty four poles to a white oak and oak and sugar tree thence south eighty seven degrees west with Scotts line two hundred twelve poles to the beginning With its appurtenances to have and to hold this tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said William Downing and his heirs forever, and the said David Finley and Elizabeth his wife to warrant and forever defend the said William Downing and his heirs this tract or parcel of land from all and every person laying any claim right or title In witnesseth whereof the said David Finley and Elizabeth his wife have hereunto set their hand and seals the day and date above written

At a court held for Lincoln County the 15th day of February 1785 this indenture was acknowledged by the said David Finley and Elizabeth his wife (she being first privately examined as the law directs) to be their act & deed and ordered to be recorded
