Thomas Dix to Francis Mayberry, 200 acres on Middle District of Wolf River,

17 November 1798, (John Finley witness) Knox County, TN

Warrant Deed Book F-1, volume 2, page 239-240.

 

This Indenture made this seventeenth day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight between Thomas Dix, of the county of Knox and State of Tennessee of the one part and Francis Mayberry, of the county and state aforesaid of the other part: witnesseth that the said Thomas Dix for and in consideration of the sum of thirty three pounds six shillings and eight pence to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath and by these ??? unto doth grant bargain, and alien, enscoff and confirm unto the said Francis Mayberry his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred acres be the same more or less lying and being in the middle district on Wolf river it being a part of a tract of land granted unto John ??? and Francis Mayberry containing 4,400 acres and which two hundred acres is to be laid off equal in quantity with ???????? one thousand acres which I purchased of said Mayberry, with all and every ??? the woods, water, watercourses, profits, commodities, hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever to the said tract belonging or appertaining and the ??? remainder and remainders, rents and issues thereof and all the estate, right, title, interest, property, claim and ??? of him the said Thomas Dix ???? v.c. of in and to the same and every part and parcel ??? in law or Equity, to have and to hold the said two hundred acres of land, with their appurtenances unto the said Francis Mayberry his heirs and assigns forever & with the lawful title claim and demand of all and every person or persons, whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said Thomas Dix hath hereto set his hand and seal this day and year above written first in this deed.

Be it remembered that on the twentieth day of March one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine personally came John Goothey(?) a subscribing witness to the within deed before me Andrew Jackson one of the judges of the Superior Court of law and Equity for the state of Tennessee, who being first duly sworn, deposeth and saith that he saw Thomas Dix sign seal and deliver the within deed and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the use and purposes therein contained and mentioned.
