To all to whom these presents shall come I Robert Houston Esquire Sheriff of Knox County in the State of Tennessee send greeting - Whereas by two alias writs of fieri(?) facias(?) to me directed issued from the County Court of Knox bearing test the second Monday of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight I was commanded that of the goods and Chattels lands and tenements of Samuel Finley and John Finley of my County I should cause to be made the sum of forty three Dollars and Seventy seven cents which lately before said Court John Mottis & Polly Keisler had recovered in their Suits against Samuel Finley and wife and the said John Finley for costs by them expended whereof the said Samuel Finley & John Finley is convict and liable and have those monies ready to render into Office on the Second Monday of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight as by reference to said Writ may fully appear - And whereas the State of North Carolina on the (blank) day of (blank) one thousand seven hundred and (blank) By patent for the consideration therein expressed gave and grant unto Thomas King his heirs and assigns forever four hundred acres of Land Situate lying and being in the County of (blank) now Knox Beginning at a white oak on the Bank of Holston River then North two hundred and forty three poles to a Stake - then West two hundred and fifty four poles to a post oak and fence? thence South one hundred and Sixty poles to a Black oak & Gum Thence West fifty five poles to a Stake - thence South eighty four poles to a Stake - thence East three hundred poles to the Beginning Together with all and Singular the woods Ways waters Watercourses mines minerals hereditments and appurtenances to the said four hundred acres belonging or in anywise appertaining reference to the said patents registered in the Registers Office of (blank) County in Book (blank) page (blank) will fully appear - And whereas the right to the said four hundred acres of Land with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging by several mesne? Conveyances became vested in the said John Finley his heirs and assigns forever - And Whereas by virtue of the said Writs of fieri facias to me directed and to comply with the Commands therein Contained I the said Robert Houston Esquire Sheriff of the County aforesaid in the State aforesaid not knowing of any personal property of the said Samuel Finley or John Finley did levy on the said Tract or parcel of Land containing four hundred acres aforesaid and after giving legal notice of the time and place of sale did proceed to Sell the said tract or parcel of land containing four hundred acres as aforesaid with the hereditaments & appurtenances thereto belong to the highest and last bidder - And now know ye that I the said Robert Houston Esquire Sheriff of the County aforesaid for and in consideration that Moses White of Knoxville was the highest and last bidder at and upon the said sale and for and in consideration of the sum of thirty one Dollars bid by the Said Moses White and for and in consideration of the payment of the said sume of thirty one Dollars to me - the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and convey to the said Moses White his heirs and assigns forever the aforesaid four hundred acres of land with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining and the reversion & reversions remainder and remainders rents issues & profits thereof and all the estate right title interest property claim and demand of the said John Finley of in & to the said four hundred acres of land and of in & to every part and parcel thereof either in Law of Equity - And also all the estate right title interest Property Claim and demand that I as Sheriff in virtue of my Office can convey to enable the said Moses White his heirs and assigns forever to hold the said four hundred acres of Land with the hereditements and appurtenances against the said John Finley and his heirs and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever In Testimony whereof I the said Robert Houston Esquire Sheriff have hereunto set my name and affixed my seal the 28th day of February A.D. 1799.
