Samuel Rippey will, 24 November 1790, Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania,
Will Book A-222-224.
In the Name of God Amen I Samuel Rippey of the Township of Shippensburg in the County of
Cumberland and State of Pennsylvania yeoman being old and infirm in body, but of perfect sound
and disposing mind and memory (thanks be to God therefore) and calling to mind my approaching
disolution do make this my last will and testament respecting such worldly estate wherewith it
hath pleased God to bless me with in this life in manner following that is to say. first I do order
that all my just debts and funeral Charges be fully paid and satisfied. Item I also order that all my
lands Tenements goods and chatles, and also my Negro boy named George, except what is herein
after otherwise disposed of, be sold and the land and Tenements conveyed by my Executors as
soon as convenient after my decease and that the monies arising therout and therefrom be aplied
towards the payment of my Wife's Anuity or dower and the funeral legacies herein after
bequeathed. Item I give and bequeath to my faithfull and beloved wife Rachel Rippey one
hundred pounds bond payable by Robert Peoples and also the sum of Ten pounds yearly and
every year during the term of her Widowhood. I also give and bequeath to her my said wife my
Negro woman named Rachel during the same term, and afterwards the same Negro woman. I
give and bequeath to any one or all of my four Children at the option of her said Mistress, I also
give and bequeath to her my said wife my Negro Child named Doll but any child or Children born
by the said Negro woman in her said mistresses service shall be the property of her my said wife.
I also give and bequeath to her my said wife one milch Cow, one bed, and bed clothing and as
much of my other household furniture of every kind as she shall choose to take. Item I give and
bequeath to my son William Rippey two hundred pounds. Item I give and bequeath to my son
Elijah Rippey my lot of ground on the North side of King Street in Shippensburg No. 109 with the
appurtenances to hold to him the said Elijah Rippey the sum of one hundred pounds Fifty pounds
to be paid as soon as my Executors can sell or dispose of my land to the best advantage and the
other fifty pounds to remain and be lodged for his use in the hands of my Executors to be by them
paid to him in such quotas or portions and at such time as they in their discretion shall see meet.
Item I give and bequeath to my Grandson Samuel Allen Rippey the sum of one hundred pounds.
Item I give and bequeath to my grandson Samuel Rippey son of Elijah Rippey the sum of ten
pounds. Item I give and bequeath to my three Grand daughters to wit, Isabel Rippey daughter of
my son William Rippey Sable Rippey daughter of my son Samuel Rippey, and Isabel Finley
daughter of James Finley the sum of ten pounds each. Item I give and bequeath to Jean
Laughlin and to Jane Cooper daughter of my Friend the Reverend Robert Cooper the sum of five
pounds each. Item I give and bequeath to my other grand Children to wit, Margaret, Ruth,
William, John, and Jean Children of my son William, and to John, Elizabeth, and Margaret,
Children of my son Samuel, and also to Samuel, John, James, and Mary children of James
Finley the Sum of five pounds each, and to my said grandson Samuel Finley I also give and
bequeath my Silver shoe buckles stock Clasps, and gold sleeve buttons, and it is my will and
meaning that all and singular the Legacies and bequeaths herein before mentioned as Money, to be
paid in Gold or silver at the same Rates all such spieces of money now ? current within the state,
and that all and every the said legacies herein bequeathed to minors and who shall be under the
ages respectively herein after mentioned at the time of my decease to be by their respective
parents or Guardians as soon as convenient thereafter put out to Interest on good securities for
the benefit of the said legatees untill they shall respectively arrive the males at eighteen and the
Females at Fourteen years of age, at which age respectively their parents or Guardians shall pay
them their legacies aforesaid or otherwise apply the same to and for the use of the same legatees
respectively. Furthermore I give and bequeath all the overpluss residue and remainder of my
Estate whatsoever not herein before willed or bequeathed to and amongst my three Children, to
wit, William, Samuel and Jane in equal shares to be divided and my farther will is that in Case my
said wife shall be buried in the grave yard at Middle Spring, my Executors shall procure gave
stones to be set up at head and foot of her grave. And lastly I do by these presents nominate
constitute and appoint my sons William Rippey and Samuel Rippey Executors of this my last will
and testament hereby ? revoking and disanulling all and every former wills and Testaments by me
in anywise heretofore made. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 24th
day of November in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety.

by the aforesaid Samuel Rippey the ? as and Samuel Rippey (seal)
for his last will & Testament in the presence of us
who have hereunto Subscribed our names in the presence and
at the request of the said testator.

Franklin County. On the 19th day of December 1791 Robert Peobles and John Detrick the
witnesses to the within writing appeared before me the subscriber Register for the probate of wills
in and for the said County, and on their solemn oaths deposeth & saith that they were personally
present & saw and heard Samuel Rippey within mention now decd. sign his name unto & seal &
publish the within writing as and for his last will & testament and that at the time of the doing
thereof he the said Samuel was of sound & disposing mind memory & understanding according to
the best of their knowledge and belief, that their names, signed thereto as witnesses is of their own
hands writing done at the same time.
