John Hackney Will, 4 July 1855, Blount County, TN, WB l:63
I John Hackney of the County of Blount and State of Tennessee being somewhat afflicted in bodily health and knowing the certainty of death, but of sound mind and disposing memory do make my will and testament in matter and form following Viz. After my decease I wish my body buried in a plain decent manner and my burial expenses paid out of any money in hand. First, I bequeath to my wife Rachel Hackney all of the homestead buildings barn Stables Crib and an ample Support out of the proceeds of said farm and two hundred dollars in cash, including what my son Blount Gave to her at his death and one young brown mare four years old and as much of the cattle hogs and Sheep Stock as she wishes to keep for her own use, also all of the Household and Kitchen furniture of any(?) description to be Kept by her or sd farm for the use of said farm during her natural life or widowhood. Secondly, I bequeath to my Son H.Q. Hackney all the land I possess in the 5th ...?... district the same he now live on - also apiece or lot of land being a part of my house tract of land - beginning in a Stake corner between our and Sue Donaldson then a Straight line thirty chain(?) 1/3 west to a forked black oak an original corner to sd Hackneys tract of land and the Stanfield ...?... from thence a straight line to a cross fence ...?... to the road leading to ...?... thence along the South Side of sd fence through the field to a road ending to A. Parkes fence thence with the same to A. Endsleys and my corner thence with Hoovers line to sd Donaldsons line thence with sd Donaldsons line to the beginning Supposed to be fifty acres. Thirdly I bequeath to my Daughter Juli(?) Bails the sum of five hundred dollars in addition to what I heretofore gave her to be paid out of any money due me as soon as it can be collected after my decease. 4th I bequeath to my son Francis Ramsey Hackney my entire homestead tract or tracts of land Except the lot bequeathed to my Son Hugh W. Hackney Supposed to be fifty acres all the ballance of said home farm supposed to be two hundred acres to aforesd F. Ramsey Hackney. And all the Surplus money on hand if there be any after paying up all of said legal claims and all medical expenses to be equally divided between my wife and other legatees. It is my wish that Hu Q. W. Hackney take the black nooke(?) of Oxen and one yearlain mule colt and F. Ramsey the old mares Sucking colt and if the horse called Dock can be spared or any of the present crop my Exors Shall discretionary power to dispose of all such articles as are not herein disposed of and lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint Alexander ...?... Hugh Q.W. Hackney, Francis Ramsey Hackney Executors of this my will and testament. It is my will that my Executors take possession and dispose of my entire estate according to the provisions of this will without giving Security in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 4th of the Seventh Month or July in A.D.
