Tavaneh Head to John Wilks, Negro man Washington, 13 February 1848, Sumner
County, Tennessee
Know all men by these presents that I Tavenah Head have this day sold to John Wilks a negro
man by the name of Washington for the sum of five hundred dollars to me in hand paid which
negro man I warrant to be sound & healthy. I also bind myself my heirs Executors and
administrators viz to warrant and defend the legal title of to the said John Wilks his heirs and
assigns forever from the lawful claim or claims of all and every person or persons in any wise
claiming what? In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the 13th day of
February 1848.
