William and Sarah McDowell to Tavenah Head, 100 acres, 27 September 1851, Logan

This Indenture made this 27 day of September 1851 between William McDowell and Sarah his wife of the county of Logan and state of Kentucky of the first part and Tavenah Head of the County and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said McDowell for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Head the recpt of which is hereby acknowledge doth by these presant bargain sell convey and confirm to the said Head his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Logan and waters of Mudy River containing 100 acres and bounded as followeth. Beginning at a rock standing on the north side of the high land lick road and corner to Tavenah Head and Brown running thence S9E 103 poles to a small Hickory corner to George D. Blakey thence N84 1/2E 150 poles to a post(?) oak corner to said Blakey thence N25E 83 poles to the middle of the road thence with the road N87W 200 poles to the Beginning To have and to hold the before described tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Head his heirs and assigns forever free from all claims whatever the said McDowell will by these presents warrant and forever defend. In Testimony of which the said William McDowell and Sarah his wife as aforesaid hereto set their names and seals the date first herein written.

I, James E. Wright as clerk of the said Logan County Court do certify that this deed from William McDowell and Sarah his wife to Tavenah Head was this day produced to me in my office by said Grantors and acknowledged by the said Wm McDowell to be his act and deed and the said Sarah being examined by me privily and apart from her said husband declared that she did freely and willingly by seal and deliver said writing and wishes not to retract it and acknowledged the said writing again shown and explained to her to be her act and deed and consenteth that the same may be recorded. Whereupon said deed together with this certificate hath been duly admitted to record in my office given under my hand this 3rd day of October 1851.
