Joel Jenkins to Charles Walter and Stephen Fisher, Deed of Trust, 27 January 1834, Greene County, MO, Deed Book A:9.

Know all men by these presents that I Joel Jenkins have this day granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do Grant bargain and Sell unto Charles Walter and Stephen Fisher in consideration as hereinafter mentioned the following property towit, one sorrel mare and colt, two cows and calves six head of sheep one sow and seven pigs and the improvement whereon I now live all which property I have in possession it being in consideration that they have stood and become my security and jointly with me bound themselves to pay to the county of Greene on the twenty day of April next sixty two dollars with ten percent interest which conveyance is made for the purpose of indemnyfying my said securities the condition whereof is such that if I do pay said amount myself when due then this deed is to be void otherwise my said securities & hereby authorised to sell said property to the highest bidder, giving ten days previous by three advertisments to raise said amount, and should said property bring more than is sufficient to pay said amount the overplus must be returned to me and it is understood and agreed that said property is to remain in my possession until the time when said debt is due in order that I may be able to redeem it Witness my hand and seal this 27th Jan 1834.

I Charles P Bullock Clerk of the Greene Circuit Court within and for said county do certify that on the 24th day of January 1834 the within instrument of writing purporting to be a deed of Trust was this day before me in my office acknowledged by the within named Joel Jenkins who is personally known to me to be the person whose name is subscribed to the foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therin mentioned and thereupon the same is duly recorded in my office on deed book (A) Page (9) In Testimony Whereof I the clerk aforesaid have hereunto subscribed my name and afixed my private seal there being no seal of office yet provided the day and year aforesaid.
