Alexander Reid Will, 21 March 1804, Amherst County, Virginia, Will Book 4:152-154.
In the name of God amen I Alexander Reid of Amherst County and
State of Virginia being of perfect mind and memory and sound
judgement thanks be to God and knowing that it is appointed for
all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last will and
Testament in Manner following I recommend my soul into the hands
of Almighty God the disposer of all things and my body to be
Buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discresion
of my Executors here after to be named and as touching such
worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with, after
debts and funeral expences are paid, I dispose of in the
following manner, to wit Item I will and bequeath to my son
Samuel Reid a cirtin Tract of Land lying in Amherst County
adjoining the land of Moses Hughes containing by patent one
Hundred and thirty six acres to him his Heirs and assigns
forever. I likewise give to my said son Samuel Reid my part of
a certin Tract of land lying in the State of Kentucky Lincoln
County containing two hundred and fifty acres it being two
thirds of the survey which said land I give to him and to his
heirs and assigns forever. item I give to my son in Law
James Reid and the Heirs of my son in Law John Findley Deceased
the one half of twelve hundred acres of Land lying in the State
it being a part of a survey of three thousand five hundred and
fifty six and a half acres by them I give three hundred acres to
wit James Reid three hundred acres and to the Heirs three
hundred acres which said Land I am intitled to by Contract one
half of the said twelve acres being given for the Location of
the same which said six hundred acres of Land I desire to be
equally divided between my son in Law James Reid and the heirs of
my son in Law John Findley Dec'd and to their Heirs and assigns
forever. Item I give and bequeath to my son in Law James Davis
and my Daughter Mary Shannon to be at her disposal to each of
them three hundred acres of Land lying in the State of Kentucky
it being part of a survey of four thousand six hundred and
twenty acres when ever my part is alloted me out of said survey
to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item my will is that
my son James Reid after my decease have his choice of one
Feather Bed and furniture out of my Estate which I give to him
and his Heirs forever. Item my will is that my executors
hereafter to be appointed do sell all my lands in the County of
Amherst not before devided and they are hereby authorised and
empowered to convey the same to any purchaser or purchasers
at such terms as they shall think most beneficial for those
to whom it is intended and the money arising from such sale to be
put to interest on good security and my said Executors to pay the
said money and Interest to my three Grandsons Alexander John and
James Reids sons of my son John Nathan Reid Dec.! as they
severally come of age or marry or the surviver or survivers of
them and their Assigns forever and if my executors see it
necessary to apply the interest of the aforesaid money or any
part thereof to the support and maintainance of my said
Grandsons and their Sisters Susanna Jane and Anne Reid Daughters
of my said son John Nathan Reid Dec.' The remaining part of
my Land in the State of Kentucky when assertained not before
given of the four thousand six Hundred and twenty acre survey to
be equally divided between them both as to qualaty and quantity
and in case one or more of them should die before they come of
age or marry my will is that her or their part be divided between
the survivor or survivors of them which said Land I give to
my said Grand daughters Susanna Jane and Anne Reid and to their
Heirs and Assigns forever. Item all the rest of my estate of
what kind soever I will and bequeath to be equally, divided among
the children of my son John Nathan Reid Dec.' Alexander John
James Susanna Jane & Anne Reid to them and their Heirs forever to
be distributed as they severally come of age or marry at the
discression of my of my Executors hereafter to be named or the
survivor or survivors of them and in case one or more of them
die before they come of age or marry then his her or their part
or parts to be divided among the Survivor or survivors of them.
Item when my lands in the State of Kentucky were Surveyed
Several people had lands included in the same plats and patents
came out in my name and in some I am a Joint tenant my will and
desire is that all my right title interest and claim of any
and all the Estate real or personal I may have by contract or
any otherwise may hold or possess in the State of Kentucky be
so fore vested and given in trust to my two grandsons sons of my
son in law James Reid Viz Alexander and James Reid for Special
purpose of dividing lands and making conveyances agreeable to all
contracts heretofore by me made and the different legacies in
this will contained according to the Laws and customs of that
State. Lastly I do hereby constitute my son Samuel Reid and my
friends James Woods and Hudson Martin Executors of this my last
Will and Testament hereby revoking all former or other will or
wills heretofore by me made and declearing this only to be to be
my last Will and Testament in testamon where of I have hereunto
set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty first day of March

Virginia on 16 July, 1804 by Samuel Reid and was proven by the
oaths of Hannah Owings and Robert Shields. Amherst County
