Gerhard Will, last will and testament, 3 July 1778, Troyon County, N.C.
In the name of God Amen I Gerhard Will of Troyon County and province of North
Carolina farmer. Being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given
unto God: calling unto mind and mortality of my body do make and ordain this my last will and
testament in manner following. I recommend my Soul to the Almighty God, that gave it; and my
Body I recomment it to the Earth to be buried in the Christian Burial at the descretion of
Executor and in teaching such word by estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this
life. I give, divide and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
First I give and bequeath to Mary Barbara my dearly beloved wife, all my money,
household goods, debts, notes and bonds and moveable estate, but in case she doth marry again
she is to have her thirds and no more and if she remains the widow she is to have her living of the
plantation her life time. I also give and bequeath to my son Daniel, the sum of ten pounds and to
my son Jacob, ten pounds, I also give and bequeath to my daughters Eve, Christina and
families, two cows and calfs and a bed each, also a frying pan, a pot and some pewter each, also
to my youngest son, Conrad, I give and bequeath to him his heirs and assigns for ever the
plantation I now live on and the trace of land I bought of Adam CLONINGER and when he is at
the age of sixteen years he is to have two horses, creatures, wagon, plow and Laclans.
I likewise constitute make and ordain John WILL, Jacob LEITS, Adam CLONNINGER
the sole executors of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke
all former testaments, wills, lagues and executors retifimy and confirming this and no other to by
my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day
of July in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight. Signed, sealed,
published, pronounced and declared by the said GERHARD WILL at his Last Will and Testament
in presence of us.
