In the name of God amen August 25th 1790 I John Caldwell planter of

 

Augusta County and state of Virginia being now of perfect mind & memory

 

thanks be to God who gave it, and called to mind the mortality of Body, do

 

make this my last Will & Testament, and first after paying my debts & funeral

 

charges I give to Lou James the sum of Three pounds in mony or trades,

 

also to my daughter Sarah the sum of Twenty Pounds in Mony or trade; also to

 

my daughters Mary Fenny & Annas to each of them Fifty pounds in money or

 

Trade to be paid when my wife Jane thinks proper, and the remainder of my

 

 

who Estate real & personal I give to my wife Jane during her natural life

 

and after her death my Land to be equally divided between my son John,

 

Thomas & Samuel: also my negro Cuff to be sold after my wifes death; and

 

the price to be Equaly divided between my Sons John Thomas & Samuel, likewise

 

my is that each of my children should have a Bible when my wife shall

 

think proper, as also that my Sons Thomas & Samuel learn to read well, and lean

 

some needfull rules of Arithmetick. And I do hereby appoint & ordain

 

my loving wife Jane & my son John Executirx & Executor of this my last Will and

 

Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & year above

 

written. Vz As to my negro Cuff I allow my Executors to sell him when they think

 

fit, the price to be divided as before directed.

Jane Caldwell the Executrix therein named, and proved by the oaths of Abraham

 

Larew and Peter Larew two of the witnesses thereto, and is ordered to be recorded
